The ROW Congo-Kasai Chapter (ROW-CK) has recently funded year two of the School for Single Mothers at Tshikaji. This project is coordinated through IMCK (Institut Medical Chretien du Kasai). The 2009 operating budget for 30 ladies to complete the 12-month program is just over $16,000. The curriculum includes French, math, geography, hygiene, and sewing. We would love to send you a tote bag the ladies made in appreciation for donations of $50 or more. You can help change a life for one of these ladies and her children!
ROW-CK just committed (April 2009) to fund roof repairs for the downtown IMCK Hospital location in Kananga. The roof is in immediate need of major repairs to make certain rain and wind doesn’t damage it further and cause major damage to the building and medical equipment. These repairs are $14,375. Help preserve this institution’s excellent record of service as the major referral hospital for a population center of over one million people!
ROW-CK, in cooperation with the Medical Benevolence Foundation, hosted Mr. Bernard Kabibu, IMCK Administrator, April 11-16. Mr. Kabibu made presentations at Redeemer Presbyterian (Snellville, GA), North Avenue Presbyterian (Atlanta), and Rehoboth Presbyterian (Decatur, GA). In addition, he visited MedShare, an organization that collects and distributes medical equipment and supplies for mission organizations around the world and DeKalb Medical Center (DMC) in Decatur. Dr. John Kennedy, the Medical Director at DMC will travel in a group to Congo in June and will be performing surgery at Good Shepherd Hospital.
ROW-CK June 2009 trip shapes up. A team of eight including Dr. Kennedy, Jim Carse, Sarah Stranahan, Lilibet Wilkerson, Katrina Manier, Jimmy Shafe, Elizabeth Anne Manier, and Katy Manier will travel from June 17th to July 1st. Plans are to conduct VBS programs at several locations including the orphanage assisted by ROW in Kinshasa; visit the Université Protestante au Congo and the Dikembe Mutombo hospital in Kinshasa, visit the School for Single Mothers at Tshikaji, and try to fit in a day-long work project at Good Shepherd Hospital in Tshikaji.
