DAY 1 April, 2006 - Being in Honduras has given all of us the opportunity to open our eyes to third world countries and see the difference in lifestyles. Smiling here means a big deal to others, here it is a necessity to show friendliness and is a huge role in showing that you are welcome. People take pride in their country and they value every little moment in life. The people here are very appreciative over anything and everything you give to them. A notebook is as much of a deal as receiving a new car! Giving kids things they do not have is unexplainable. There are no words to describe the feeling of giving. The Lord has prepared each and everyone of us to show His love through us. This past week has been an extremely breath-taking experience! The Bible has definitely given us the preparation to accomplish the things we can do to show other people. Thank you for the many prayers and contributions that helped us reach our goal to help others. God bless Lidia Reyes from Covenant Christian DAY 2 We learned so much today. We went to a kindergarten where teachers are paid $25 US a month to teach 15 children- with no funds for supplies at all! We shared with the students and teacher-and had a ball! The Honduran version of imminent domain left many families in card board boxes for homes for 15 years! A new home costs only $4000and we need to build hundreds of them-can you help? I met a lady who gathers rack dust from a stream and sells it beside the highway that took her home- she has 6 family members living in a 10'X 10" tar paper/tin roofed hut - we can do better!! They could have a new home in one week- all we need is $4000 and a team to build - how hard can this be?? In another shack- 15 people share ONE room - Pastor Israel bought ice cream for everyone and it was a celebration! Honduras - beautiful mountains - precious new friends - who have so far received: 800 ROW education packets for students 84 Bibles and 150 health kits from the team from Covenant Christian Academy in Loganville, GA!! Praise the Lord - there is lots of excitement here as we continue to work on the medical clinic, made benches for church, and visit remote villages! God bless!
DAY 3 We had to get the job done! One church needed benches - 20 of them- and yet another needed 3! What a challenge! But the4 group was up to it! We cut- we measured- we fastened- we used up the batteries in 3 screw drivers and got it done! First step- now- to get them delivered! Mike Massey, engineer extraordinary, directed the placement of the benches on a trailer- tied them down- and off we went! Honduras has mountains and more mountains-and Israel pulled benches and all of us over 3000 feet UP to th4e first village- only find the church locked! One of our was skinny enough to slide through a small opening to get into the church- open a window- and let us in! New benches brought quite a crowd to the church! Speeches of thanks were delivered, prayers offered- and then we had the blessing of sharing vitamins and education packets with the children! With that accomplished, we headed higher and higher to a village in the clouds! We delivered more benches, vitamins, school supplies, baby caps and blankets and prayed and sang our hearts out as the sun set over Lago Yahova. Back to town in order to celebrate the graduation of the pastor's wife from nursing school. Lots of song- lots of prayers- I preached as Beth interpreted- and we ended a very full day with tamales prepared by the church! We have now traveled all day to get to Tela, right on the bay! It is breath taking- and a great way to relax before we head back to the States. Tomorrow we travel by boat to a point on the coast. We hike through the bush, wave at monkeys- swat mosquitoes- snorkle- and wear ourselves out! Come join us! What a great place to serve the Lord!
