As a sophomore, some friends and I started a chapter of ROW (Rivers of the world) at Riverwood and renamed it THROW (Teens Helping Rivers of the World). The idea for THROW started after a speaker from ROW came to our school and gave a speech on how ROW helps people in countries where they can barely help themselves. I was so inspired that I wanted to help this organization some how. Being a teenagers we couldn’t exactly donate money, but I still wanted to contribute and thus THROW was formed.
Through ROW we have been able to help hundreds of lives around the world. For instance we raise money through car washes, rose sales, candy sales and other fundraisers. Then we donate the money to ROW to help fund missionary trips, fight river blindness, feed the hungry in South America and other global issues.
Through our fundraisers over the past few years we have been able to raise several hundred dollars. Although this figure may appear to be insignificant, it is actually very helpful because to save one person from river blindness it only cost a quarter and the cost for food for a single person in a third world country is only about thirty dollars for a whole year. We would love to help your community start a chapter, if you have any questions feel free to email throw@row.org.
