Paul holds a B.S. in Marketing Management from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is married to Pam who is originally from Horseheads, NY. They met over the internet and after seeing each other for a couple of years and running up their phone bills, they finally decided to tie the knot in 1999. They work together running their two businesses: 1) Tarver Program Consultants, Inc. that develops custom data interfaces between software applications for customers in 26 states. 2) Quality PC of Meridian that is a local computer hardware sales and service company in Meridian, MS. In 2009, Tarver Program Consultants celebrates it’s 17th Anniversary in business. Paul has written three software products used by customers nationwide: CruiseCalc, LoadCalc Professional and Call List Scrubber.
Paul got involved with ROW, through Thomas Webb who is a trustee with ROW. Their friendship dates back to 1991 when they met in the Atlanta airport. Thomas was returning to Meridian from a trip to Florida and Paul was returning from a trip to Boston. Their mutual love of computers and gadgets soon surfaced and they have been friends and business associates ever since.
After seeing the work that Thomas was doing for ROW, Paul wanted to get involved, but the nature and finances of his businesses prevented him from taking time off to go out of the country on a regular basis. So, Paul waited for an opportunity. That opportunity came one day at the end of 1999 when Thomas asked Paul to take over the maintenance of the ROW website. Paul knew it was the chance of a lifetime and he snatched it up.
The truth of the matter is, maybe you can’t go and be a missionary in a foreign place. Maybe you can’t donate millions of dollars. Maybe you can’t do anything extraordinary. But every organization like ROW needs ordinary people doing ordinary things everyday, in order for the extraordinary to happen.
When Paul and Pam got married, Pam had two beautiful children, Alicia and Danny, from a previous marriage. On August 18th, 2001, Alicia died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was sixteen years old. Two weeks before the accident, she told Pam and Paul that if something ever happened to her she did not want to stay on a respirator and she wanted to donate her organs. Pam and Paul respected her wishes and now there are many people who have benefited from her generosity. Paul is currently writing a book about the experience that he hopes to publish soon. If you want to know more about the organ donation process you can click here.
Alicia wanted to be a marine biologist which in most cases would have led her to teach others in some way. She wanted to do field research and go all over the world. She wanted to swim with the dolphins and to help people learn more about the animals living in the rivers and seas of the world. It is therefore appropriate that an Educational Fund has been established with Rivers of the World in her name. Thomas Webb is the founder of the fund and the Tarvers are eternally grateful to him for doing so. If you would like to contribute to this fund to provide educational materials to the children all over the world please click here and make a donation today. Indicate on the form that your donation is for the Alicia Hoover Educational Fund. You can also download the ROW Screensaver and for a donation of $15 access the full version and all of the money will go directly to the Educational Fund.
