Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I get involved?

This is the single most asked question! Start by GOING on a ROW trip! We need volunteers to serve for a week or longer overseas. The costs vary, but are usually less than $2000 a person – depending on air fare. Teams go all year and are pretty specific in their tasks so contact us for details!

  • How do I get a job with ROW?

This is the second most asked question!! We are thankful that so many folks want to work for ROW! The sad part is that many want to work, but very few want to answer this question – “What is it that you would do for ROW that would generate more income than you cost?” If we hired everyone who wanted to work for ROW and all we did was pay funds OUT – we’d last about three hours!! Non profit organizations are just like any other business. We have to have more funds coming in than going out – or we go broke!

  • I want to serve full time over seas. Send me!!

That’s also a fun idea – but it does not fit the ROW model. We believe that, “It’s their country, their village, their people, their tribe but our problem!” Our staff world wide are always people of the particular host country. We will not send an American to do what a Congolese, Belizean, Peruvian, etc should be doing! ROW prefers to see people of any given country take the challenge to rise to leadership positions.

  • How can I help here?

Now you’re talking! We need help organizing teams, doing mailings, setting up program opportunities for ROW staff to speak (dinners, schools, civic clubs, businesses, churches, etc), sponsorships, etc! Contact ROW to offer your assistance in these areas.

  • Does ROW get money from the government?

ROW gets no funds from the government. If someone gives us a dollar for a specific project, 100% of that dollar goes to that project and no where else. If you take all of the funds that come into ROW 90% are for program costs! Pretty good!! We are a Christian organization with roots in the Presbyterian Church. ROW needs four things to grow: people, prayer, money, and stuff!

You can donate to ROW either on-line at this web site, or by sending your check or money order to our address listed here.

  • Does it cost money to travel with ROW?

It does cost money to travel with ROW. You’d be amazed at how many volunteers we could get if only we’d pay for it!! Trips are for a week or longer and cost $1200 or more depending on airfare and location.

  • What skills would a missionary need to be successful?

The greatest skills needed on any bush trip are attitude, patience, and attitude and patience!! Americans are often in a hurry and seldom watch their words. It is so easy to be critical and we need folks who are patient with others and keep a good attitude even when things are rough! My friend Chuck says, “You can complain all you want – just as long as you end the complaint with , ‘and that’s just the way I like it!’” I love that! Patience and attitude – in other words – love!

  • Why do you do this?

I do this because I honestly believe we were all put here for a purpose. My purpose is to serve with people on the rivers of the world! If I tried to do anything else, it just wouldn’t work!
