In Fortaleza: Our work in Fortaleza falls into three categories – church renovation, improvement of quality of life in the urban ghetto of Pirambu, and growth and support of a life - and community - changing educational program called PRECE - Heart of Students Educational Program. The particular work of each trip is determined by the needs expressed by our mission partners in Fortaleza.

Posted by: | Posted: January 1st, 2008 | CommentsThe focus of our mission projects in Fortaleza Brazil are related to PRECE -Heart of Students Institute. PRECE is a phenomenal faith based educational program founded by Manuel Andrade Neto. Andrade is a professor of the sciences at University of Fortaleza. He started this educational program with 7 students on his family compound of land in Cipo, a small rural town 75 miles outside of Fortaleza. The focus of this program is to help the poorest of the poor in northeastern Brazil complete high school and gain admission into the Federal University in Brazil. The typical admission rate from public school into the federal university is 4%! Most PRECE students had even previously dropped out of the public school system. Read More→
2007 Report On Work around Fortaleza, Brazil

Prece now has 13 locations in Fortaleza and mostly in rural towns up to 75 miles outside Fortaleza. There are around 1500 students studying to finish a GED type program and studying to take the very difficult pre-vestibular test to gain acceptance into the Federal University of Ceara. The acceptance rate from Prece into the university is about 20%, versus the acceptance rate out of the public high schools which is about 4%.
ROW Trip To Brasil - July 2006
Posted by: | Posted: July 16th, 2006 | CommentsA team of 24 ROW Volunteers will arrive in Fortaleza, Ceara on July 16th, 2006 to embark on a week of various mission projects. The volunteers will prepare and serve a soup kitchen in an impoverished community, work with children in the urban ghetto of Pirambu, provide Bible stories, take part in recreation and crafts, and help with some light construction work. The teams leader, Rev. Penny Hill, will also be delivering funds that have been raised for a school in Pirambu.
