Our team from Riverwood High School was not large, but they worked as hard as a huge team!! We went to the villages of Amanjou and Sylva and painted the churches, held medical and dental clinics, worshipped with folks, did arts and crafts with the kids, built a latrine, and shared a wonderful week with new Brasilian friends!
Coach John MacDonald and his wife, Debbie, were team leaders. Alice and Brandon were old Peru hands and Lauren was brand new to ROW. John and Debbie had been to Belize – but that’s not at all like Brasil!!
Rev. Djard, our host, did a great job of making us feel at home. We went to evening church and had ice cream before we hit the river and it was great! We traveled all night and arrived at our first village at 1PM.
The pictures will show you how much fun we had- Boy Scouts in Missouri sent educational packets for the kids- 200 of them! An artist in Mississippi made her Amazon angels and bracelets for the children, while a new friend in North Carolina sewed stuffed animals for the children as well!
Isn’t it amazing that so many folks from so many places across the US are able to participate in serving and living folks on the rivers of the world?
The Amazon River is long and home to countless villages – there are still many to visit and care for – why not join us on a ROW trip?
