A Very Present Help
I have discovered a new term that I hope you will include in your life’s vocabulary. What word do you use for when you know that something is just not right and it is not on the up and up? How about when you are curious about a situation and you’re not exactly sure how to describe it? In both cases, call it a post turtle. You’re thinking, “What?”
There is a popular political joke that has been around for quite some time that goes something like this: You are driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a post turtle. Again, you’re thinking, “What?” Let me explain further. You and I both know that the turtle didn’t climb up that fence post, he doesn’t belong up there and he sure doesn’t know what to do while on top of the fence post. Somebody had to put the turtle up there and it is highly unlikely the turtle will remain on the fence post. There is something odd about the scenario with the turtle so you call it a post turtle.
As Christians we must be careful to not grow complacent in our walk with the Lord, nor should be become so spiritual that we come across as arrogant. We are nothing apart from Christ. In order for us to get ahead in life it takes placing Christ at the very center of our lives and it requires our dependency upon other Christians during difficult times.
The turtle on the post will certainly need help getting down. Our help in times of trouble comes from the Lord. We have this promise given to us in Psalm 145:14:
“The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.”
Jesus is always near, especially to those who are brokenhearted, who have tried to live godly lives but have failed and to those who have reached a place in their lives where it seems as if they have no one, but God.
