Approach With Confidence
Have you attended a college graduation for your youngest child recently? Did you just drop your child off for swimming lessons this season? Many of you are preparing to help your children pack for summer camp. There are usually many mixed feelings associated with milestones and events in your child’s life.
Recently, I flew home from serving in Iraq with our troops and I had hours and hours to spend thinking about my trip and those brave servicemen and women I encountered. I began thinking about their families who constantly worry about their safety. I pondered what these young military personnel would see and experience during their time in combat in Iraq. I also wondered what the overriding impression Americans have of our military.
I believe one word describes how most Americans feel towards our military and that word is confidence. I left those troops behind in Iraq confident in my heart that we have America’s brightest, strongest and most willing young patriots representing us on the front lines in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and in other countries around the globe. I am so grateful for their service and I hope you are as well.
Christians have a wonderful confidence too and it is found in Hebrews 4:16:
“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
The confidence we have comes from the fact that our Lord and Savior endured many temptations during His time on earth. He understands our failures, our tendency toward sin and He knows that apart from Him, we can do nothing. With our lives covered by the blood of Jesus, we can boldly, yet reverently, come before God and present our petitions, having confidence that He hears us and will move on our behalf in a way that He deems best.
