Go Where He Sends You

Since I was the youngest, I was elected to be the one to change the tire. The truck had a flat tire on a dirt road in the middle of the Congo and Bill Washman said, “You change the tire and I will tell you a story.”

Bill told me of a time when he had been driving in his Land Cruiser and he had gotten lost. Darkness was falling and he had come around a turn in the forest and standing before him was a woman completely hooded in a white robe and painted white.

Rather than hit the woman, Bill stopped the truck. Suddenly, people dressed the same way as the woman surrounded him. They pulled him from the truck and took him to their village. After a big ceremony, the people said to him, “We knew you were coming tonight. We serve the unknown God and He told us that you were coming to tell us His name. Tell us, who is the unknown God?”

Because missionary Bill Washman was willing to be where the Lord wanted him, he had an opportunity to lead an entire tribe to the knowledge of Christ.

Certainly as Bill encountered the tribe he had no way of knowing what the outcome would be, yet, he soon learned that he was right where God wanted him to be. The next time we are thrust into a situation where we must choose between proclaiming Christ as Lord, or not, let us be reminded of 1 Peter 3:14-15, which says,

“But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened. But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
