United In Christ
Do you remember the 1970’s song, “We Are Family?” Well, I am excited because we are preparing to travel to the Congo to visit with family. Omba Ngandu, Shamba Akasa and Pappa Akula Mukanga, Congo program directors, will be meeting with me and my wife, Mickie Mathis, in Kinshasa.
This time, though, the three men will be bringing along their wives and we all are going to celebrate being one in Jesus Christ. As Christians, we are all united in the common bond of our belief in Christ. We may have different names, different ethnic backgrounds and live in different regions of the world, but if we believe Christ is the son of God and have accepted Him as our Savior, we are one in Him.
When we realize that we are all part of one big family in Christ, the world suddenly seems a lot smaller and our love for one another becomes greater.
Let us follow the instructions in Hebrews 10:24-25, which says:
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another?and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Although verse 25 speaks of meeting together for church, I would encourage you to not forsake assembling as a body of believers outside of church as well. If we are going to stay strong for Christ, then we must have a strong bond with other believers. This includes our times of worship in God’s house, meeting for coffee for a time of fellowship, gathering in each other’s homes for Bible study and encouraging one another every chance we get. Christ’s return is certain, soon and sure, so let us help one another to be prepared to meet our Creator.
