In Him, True Riches Are Found

Published by kclack at 2:40 pm under Africa, Congo, Witness

So how did you sleep last night? Was the water you used for your shower nice and warm? On one of our travels to Africa, we set up camp on a sandbar near one of the tributaries of the Congo River. Our showers consisted of bathing in the river. Our breakfast was not exactly bacon and eggs.

Green is the predominant color in these remote Congolese forests. You can imagine our surprise when we returned to our campsite from a nearby village and saw people dressed in bright, yellow rain suits. They were located just 200 yards away on the same sandbar. Their huge blue machinery also stood out amongst the thick forest canopy.

We discovered they were diamond dredgers. Rich mineral deposits, such as copper, uranium and diamonds, are bountiful in the Congo Basin. These neighbors naturally thought since we were Americans then certainly we must know where African diamonds are located.

This divine encounter gave us an opportunity to share our wealth, which is found in the saving grace of God. The real treasure for Christians is the love of Christ we have in our hearts. Our mission at Rivers of the World (ROW) is to serve others and to work hand-in-hand with them to overcome their daily challenges, all the while displaying the love of Christ for the people of Africa, Asia and the Americas.

We are instructed in the Word to not focus upon worldly wealth. Instead, Matthew 6:20 says:

“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

His Word is full of vast treasures for us to discover. Proverbs 22:4 states:

“Humility and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and honor and life.”

Let us take time today to share with others the greatest gift of all…Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. To learn more about how God is using us to bless others throughout the world, visit www.row.org.
