Love of Christ

Published by kclack at 3:25 pm under Africa, Danger, Kenya

It has been two weeks since Rivers of the World (ROW) has heard from our Kenya program director, Zablon Kuria and our friend, Winjuku. These men are serving in the Rift Valley and in the Mathare Valley. As you might now, Kenya has been thrust into a time of terrible turmoil and upheaval.

Over 1,000 people have lost their lives in the fighting in Kenya. We have received reports that over 300,000 people have been displaced and over 49,000 people have come through refugee camps in the Nakuru area. Hundreds of homes in the Mathare Valley have been looted and destroyed.

Even though we have recently lost communication from these men in Kenya, we know that we serve an ever-present God who is mindful of all things. God knows their struggles, the dangers that exist in that area and the recent chaos that has left so many people without hope.

Christians in America haven’t yet experienced real persecution for their faith. Nonetheless, many of us know what it is like to be ridiculed by others for loving Christ, we have experienced lean times in our lives where all we had was our faith in Christ to rest upon and perhaps some of us have endured danger for proclaiming Christ as our Lord. Whatever it is that you are facing today you can be certain that all Christians experience trials and hardships. We have hope, though, and it is found in Romans 8:35, which says:

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?”

Take heart today, for no matter what you go through, Christ is, and always will be, right by your side!
