If you make your living by traveling often then you can count on a few things that are always constant. You can be certain there will be traffic, road construction and there will always be somebody who decides they are going to have a wreck the day you’re trying to get somewhere important. The other thing you can count on during your travels is seeing friends.

One of the highlights of my travels is visiting with folks across our radio listening audience. I recently had so much fun visiting two churches in Omaha, Neb. Several of the men took me hunting and we just had the best time! They took a Georgia boy out in nine-degree weather and about a foot of snow! It was incredible.

Do you cherish the folks in your life who are older? Quite honestly, I enjoy being the old man of our organization, Rivers of the World (ROW). On a trip to the southern Toledo district of Belize, we had a new person with us. He managed to turn over our dugout canoe and fill our boots with water. Then we had to hike from Santa Ana, near the Moho River, to Midway, seven miles through the jungle. This young athlete was not quite up to the task and he passed out from heat exhaustion.

I have had my fill of hurricanes, especially after riding out Hurricane Mitch, which struck Central America in October 1998. We huddled together and spent our time on top of Mayan ruins sending back e-mails and radio interviews as the hurricane swirled all around us.
