As Close As Your Heartbeat

[ 1 ] January 31, 2012 |

The dawn of a new year reminds us of so many things, including our families. I want to share a funny story with you about my twin sister, Nan, who lives in Knoxville, Tenn.

One time when Nan was in college she brought a friend home to have dinner with our family. She told all of us that her friend was very hard of hearing and we would need to speak up so she could understand what we were saying. It just so happened that Nan also told her friend that our parents were hard of hearing and she would have to speak loudly for them to hear her!

Now, imagine all of us gathered around the dinner table trying to enjoy our meal and having to yell at each other! When we finally figured out that Nan had tricked us, we all just howled and screamed with laughter.

I don’t know about you but I am so very thankful that the Lord hears us no matter how soft or loud we speak. We have a wonderful promise found in Psalm 34:15 (NKJV):

“The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry.”

Do you realize that Jesus is as close to you as your next heartbeat? Whether you close your eyes, bow your knees before Him or simply sit in silence before the Lord, He hears you. He knows you so intimately that during those times when you cannot find the words to even whisper a prayer, Jesus still hears and answers because His ears attentively listen to the very depths of your heart.

Dear Ben, My granddaughter,Caroline, heard you speak at Richmond Hill, asked if you had been to Lubondai? You said you had. I was so happy to hear something about Lubondai. My father, Dr. George R. Cousar, helped to found that station in 19924, and I was born there and later finished HS at Central School, before coming back to the States. I would love to hear what is going on there (She said you stayed at our house!!) Thanks, Meg Cousar Tooke
