Ask, Seek and Knock
I am sure that you have had this situation occur before and as you know, it is quite awkward at best. I was in a store along with everybody else who was returning items that just didn’t fit or looked silly. All of a sudden, I heard this grunt behind me. I looked up and again I heard the grunt. I thought, “What in the world is that?” I turned to face the noise and said, “Can I help you?” The man said, “Yes, I am trying to get past you.”
Do you recall how you reacted when faced with this uncomfortable situation? I opted to be polite and I told the man, “You know, all you needed to do was ask me to move and I would have been glad to have gotten out of the way.” I think me not responding in anger must have caught him off guard because he replied, “Well, you’re right. I was wrong.” We shook hands and both agreed that everything was okay because we understood that it was just a crazy day in the mall.
How many times have we reacted in situations when all we really had to do was ask? We need to ask people to pray with us when we’re struggling to hold on. We need to ask people if they would like to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We need to ask folks if there is anything that we can do for them. When we take the simple step of asking, we never know what wonderful doors of blessing might open.
Did you know that Jesus instructs us to ask? In Matthew 7:7-8 we read:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”
Do you desire to know God more intimately? Do you long to have a better understanding of the character of Christ? Is there a prayer request that has preoccupied your times with Jesus for years? He invites us to ask Him for those things that are upon our heart. The key is we can’t just ask one time, we must search after Him and continue to knock upon His heart’s door. Jesus promises us that when we persist in prayer doors will be opened.
