Awaken Your Spirit

Published by kclack at 2:16 pm under Scripture

The sounds of war can actually almost become commonplace when you have been in that environment for a long time. It is hard to say this but the sound of a bomb exploding, the rattle of machine guns firing, the noise of small arms fire and even hearing a large explosion that rocks your world can actually become routine. Even though these are sounds of destruction, living in this environment can actually dull your senses over time.

I cannot help but wonder if profanity, put downs, racial slurs and other destructive words could also become ordinary and routine. Before you start your day, I encourage you to conduct a personal inventory. Take note of the things that you habitually hear or say that are not helpful, but instead, are destructive. If you are working in an environment with co-workers who often curse, then live your life in such a way that they will feel convicted by the light of Christ they see in you. If you habitually speak prejudice words, stop and ask God for forgiveness and for a clean heart full of mercy and love for all mankind.

As Christians we should heed Paul’s instructions in 1 Thessalonians 5:14:

“And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.”

Pray today that the Lord purify your thoughts, give you eyes to see others as He sees them, ears to hear clearly the Holy Spirit and a heart full of Christ-like love.
