Behold, I Do a New Thing
I just love new things—they are fresh, innovative and always fun and exciting. I am excited today because Faye Webster, our editor, has a brand new newsletter for Rivers of the World (ROW). The newsletter is shiny, glossy and contains color pictures. It looks great and after 10 years, Faye looked at me and said, “You know, it is time to do something new.”
I agree. It is time to share the Gospel. It is time for the Lord to do something new in our lives. It is time for us to be more caring and more loving toward others. More than ever, it is time for us to take a stand for Jesus Christ.
God assured His people of Israel that the God who delivered them from the hands of the Egyptians at the Red Sea and the God who sent for manna from heaven to sustain them was the same God who would deliver them once again, but this time, for all eternity. The prophet Isaiah’s words from God in Isaiah 43:18-19 to the children of Israel ring true for all Christians today:
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”
Let me take this time, dear Christian, to encourage you today. You may be in the lowest valley and see absolutely no way out. You may be in the darkest pit and see no light at all. Troubles may be surrounding you from all sides and you may fear that you are about to go under. Look up and know that your Deliverer still reigns on high. He sees your plight and is making a way in your desert. Hold onto to Christ and He will be the very stream in your wasteland.
