I have learned through the years that one of the great aspects of being a Christian is the fellowship we experience when we participate together in sports. Did you know that baseball is a huge sport in Nicaragua? Did you also know that Rivers of the World (ROW) has two baseball teams in that Central American country? We have the men’s and the women’s Monkey Point Stars.

It is a great day to be thankful here at Rivers of the World (ROW). Do you know that there are times that we get 150 e-mails a day from our radio listeners? This just makes my day and I simply glow inside! I have actually coined a new phrase, “You make my heart smile.”

Many Christians I am sure have heard the term, “We’re going to lift you up in prayer.” I have to admit that this is one of those expressions that I have never really examined or even thought much about. I just figured the term meant someone was putting a person’s name before the Lord, and that God would hear the prayer and then act upon it.

Distressing news about a friend is much more difficult to accept when you have a long history with that friend. For years you have heard me talk about my friend, former General Adolphe Onusumba, who was one of the rebel leaders in the recent civil war in the Congo. We were friends throughout the civil war.

One thing I enjoy about Christian radio is how all of our listeners become members of the Rivers of the World (ROW) family. Your emails, letters, phone calls and visits mean so much to me.

It is springtime and do you know what that means? It means it is baseball season! My team has taken the field and they are down by several runs but I am confident they will finish strong. You know what I learned recently? While traveling around Central America I discovered in countries such as Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic the most popular sport is not soccer, it is baseball.

If you make your living by traveling often then you can count on a few things that are always constant. You can be certain there will be traffic, road construction and there will always be somebody who decides they are going to have a wreck the day you’re trying to get somewhere important. The other thing you can count on during your travels is seeing friends.

One of the highlights of my travels is visiting with folks across our radio listening audience. I recently had so much fun visiting two churches in Omaha, Neb. Several of the men took me hunting and we just had the best time! They took a Georgia boy out in nine-degree weather and about a foot of snow! It was incredible.

Do you cherish the folks in your life who are older? Quite honestly, I enjoy being the old man of our organization, Rivers of the World (ROW). My young staff gets a lot of enjoyment out of making fun of me. I know they really care about me, even when they refer to me as the “old man” or tease me by saying, “Oh, he probably can’t do that anymore.” They get a big kick out finding out just how much I can still do, even at my age!

People often ask me how I manage to travel to so many countries and cities every year and keep my wits about myself. On average, I visit about 200 cities a year and I am in a different country every month. How do I manage all this traveling, you might ask. My secret is wherever I am I consider myself to be home. Whenever I get off a plane and whenever I get out of a car the first thing I say is, “I’m home!” and then I don’t feel like I need to be somewhere else.
