Changing Seasons
I was lying in bed on a recent morning when suddenly I awoke from the season of fall blowing into my window. My goodness, a blast of cold air shook me out of the bed! I looked outside and could smell the sweet aroma of wood smoke and I could see that the leaves on the trees were starting to change to brilliant colors. All of this meant that life was transitioning into another season.
Autumn means Thanksgiving and football. It also means that the wonderful, joyous season of Christmas is right around the corner! All this is exciting when we realize that no matter how unstable our world or our lives are, we can count on the changing of the seasons. As we experience the seasons each year we should rejoice knowing that God is not only in control of the seasons, He is also in control of everything that happens in our world.
Whether you are experiencing a hot and humid fall or a cold and snowy autumn, take time today to just stop for a moment and feel the gentle breeze upon your face, examine the beauty of the trees around you, observe the Canadian geese in flight and praise the Lord for the changing of the seasons of time and in our lives.
Many of us are quite familiar with Solomon’s observations of life in the Book of Ecclesiastes. Take a moment and just read Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NKJV):
“To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven.”
If you read further through verse eight you will see that there really is a time for everything according to the plan of God. We may not understand at times why when we’re burdened down with cares that it seems as if God brings more rain instead of sunshine and blessings into our lives. There are times in our lives that we must let go of relationships, careers, hopes and long-held dreams. In each of our lives there will be times of refreshing, restoration, rejoicing and mourning.
Instead of despairing and questioning God for the seasons of our lives, we should humbly accept that He is sovereign and only He knows what is best for us at any given moment.
