Choose This Day Whom You Will Serve

[ 0 ] November 4, 2005 |

There are areas of Africa rich in minerals, such as diamonds. What would you do for a chance to find such a valuable treasure? Witch doctors in these areas tell families if they want to find diamonds, they have to take the life of one of their children. They even sell a potion to assist families in this unthinkable act.

We fight these evil forces at every turn. When we observe even one person renounce witchcraft and dedicate their lives to Christ, it is a glorious victory.

In a small village in this part of Africa, a young woman brought her baby to church. She handed the infant to the pastor and then knelt before the congregation. The pastor asked this woman, “When this baby gets sick, are you coming to Jesus or are you going to the witch doctor?”

She replied, “I am coming to Jesus!” The congregation went wild! This woman was not merely a woman from the village, she was the wife of the village chief. When she lined her life up with Jesus Christ, it influenced many others to also follow after the Lord. It also put that witch doctor out of business.

We all have the same choice…to follow Jesus or to follow the ways of the world. When Joshua gathered the tribes of Israel, he recounted all that God had done for His people. In Joshua 24:15, Joshua said:

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Let us go forth and do likewise.
