Communicating With God

[ 0 ] January 7, 2006 |

Some of the languages of this world are “beautifully” challenging, to say the least. In my travels around the world, I have picked up phrases from a variety of languages. Even though my Vietnamese is dreadful, I believe I can remember Chuc Mung Nam Moi, Happy New Year.

I may not always make sense to the person I am communicating with but one person who always knows what I am saying is God. The Lord understands me when I walk through a Vietnamese village and I pray a blessing on a home, for good crops for a farmer and for a successful harvest for a fisherman. The Lord knows exactly what I am trying to say.

I challenge you today while you are driving to say a prayer for the person behind you, that the Lord would bless them. While you are standing in line at the grocery store, pray for the woman with several children in front of you, that the Lord would pour out His blessings upon that family.

We are instructed in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV) to:

“Pray without ceasing.”

Saying a quick prayer in the morning and at night is not enough. This verse of Scripture means constantly having conversations with our Lord.

If you haven’t already developed this habit of communicating with God non-stop, then I encourage to begin today. As you wake up in the morning, thank Him for the beauty of a sunrise. As you arrive safely at work, thank Him for traveling mercies. As you see a coworker struggling, pray for him that the Lord would provide strength and the ability to complete his duties successfully. As you take care of errands today and see tension mounting between a husband and wife, pray that the Lord would intervene and bring about unity.

From now until eternity, we could never possibly run out of words to thank the Lord for all His marvelous blessings. Likewise, there are so many hurting people in our world that praying without ceasing for others should become second nature.
