Confirmation

[ 0 ] September 22, 2009 |

There are times in our lives when God instantly affirms what we are doing and then there are times when we simply must be patient and wait for what seems like forever to receive a confirmation from God. I recently returned from the Oronoco Delta in Venezuela where our team worked with the Warao Indian tribe.

Armed with the Jesus Film, copies of Finding Nemo and a movie from the Rivers of the World (ROW) web site, we planted these resources amongst family groups in this very remote tribe. We also provided the families with solar powered DVD players. My thought was, “I can barely figure out how to operate these things so I sure hope they will understand so we can really grow the gospel in this part of the world.”

After planting a bunch of the films and DVD players, we were traveling through the area and decided to grab a few extra copies of the films and some DVD players and make a stop at a home about a mile away from our new friends. By the time we arrived at the home and showed the family the DVD player, we discovered that they had already seen one, knew how to work it and already knew about the Jesus story! Talk about word spreading fast! This incident certainly confirmed to our team that if we take steps to spread the gospel God would affirm our efforts to serve Him.

After Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples began to fulfill the Great Commission. We read in Mark 16:20:

“Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.”

We can be sure that when we share the Word, it will not come back void. We may not see the results this side of heaven, but God will ensure that the seeds we planted will accomplish His intended purposes.
