Continue the Legacy
Most of us are familiar with the story of the Good Samaritan in the Book of Luke. Did you realize, though, that a Good Samaritan is not just someone who stops along the road to help someone who has been beaten up. A Good Samaritan is someone who chooses to stop and help in any given situation.
I am blessed to say that I know two construction folks, a physician and a health executive, who have decided to stop along life’s way and help Rivers of the World (ROW) in Honduras. They are joining me in plotting out the program and future of our new clinic, located near Siguatepeque in central Honduras.
An estimated 41,000 people are expected to receive health care from this clinic, constructed in a rural area of Honduras where medical care is hard to come by. This health clinic represents more than meeting people’s physical needs. We want to glorify God by offering hope and healing through the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
During Jesus’ short time of ministry on earth, He traveled throughout the land and met the many needs of the people. Food was provided for nourishment of bodies, healing was granted for blinded eyes and broken bodies and loving words were spoken to mend hurting hearts and restore lives. The legacy of love set forth by Christ is the same legacy that we, as His followers, must carry into all the world. We have a tremendous promise given to us by God in Psalm 41:1-3 (NKJV):
“Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies.”
Each time you stop along life’s road and act as a Good Samaritan to someone in need, you are assured that God will protect you and bless you. Go forth today and continue the legacy of Christ by loving and serving others as the Master did, which was in direct obedience to His Father.
