Don’t Lose Heart
The scene was horrific. A sugarcane truck was heading down the mountains of Honduras when the driver lost control and the truck flipped. The accident resulted in several people losing their lives and one man losing the ability to use his legs.
In the middle of July I will be heading back to Honduras. One of the reasons for my trip is to find this man injured in the accident. He spends his time in a wheelchair in a small village high in the mountains of Honduras. If you have ever traveled to the mountain villages throughout Honduras then you know that these people survive without indoor plumbing or electricity. This man lives in a house literally perched on the edge of a cliff that contains no restroom.
A Rivers of the World (ROW) team will be building this man an accessible bathroom in his home. I’ll be honest with you, I don’t have a clue how to construct such a bathroom! However, I have learned through my many travels abroad and through my participation in numerous projects, that if we simply put ourselves in a place to serve others then the Lord will provide a way for things to get accomplished.
I know some of you are struggling with what appears to be insurmountable trials. You may be dealing with the recent diagnosis of a disease, the loss of your job, the death of a loved one or the demise of your marriage. It is easy for us to get so caught up in our problems that we lose sight of the One who is in control of our lives. It is a fact that as we age our bodies fail. One area of our lives that can actually grow stronger as we age is our walk with the Lord. We are instructed in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18:
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
No matter what you are dealing with today, just remember your struggles are temporary. Each trial that we endure is another opportunity for God’s power to be revealed in our lives.
