Dwell With Christ
Do you walk with the Lord daily, seeking His presence in your life? There are far too many Christians who think they are doing God a favor by visiting with Him on Sunday mornings. After a few hours, they depart church and they leave Him there, proceeding to venture out into the world and live as they please.
The Apostle Paul, unlike many of us, kept alert continually for the presence of the Lord in his life. He instructed the believers at Corinth to stay strong in their faith until his return. Find encouragement in his instructions in 1 Corinthians 16:13-14:
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love.”
There is a process that takes place over time when we incorporate these verses into our lives. As we wait for Christ’s return, we are to be on our guard for spiritual dangers. In order to accomplish this, we must dwell in His presence by immersing ourselves in His word and communicating with Him daily. As this becomes a part of who we are, we find that the Lord’s presence becomes very real, which enables us to stand firm in our faith. When we have confidence and trust in someone, we are not easily swayed during difficult times. It is easier to remain loyal.
Courage will naturally develop in our character with an awareness of Christ in our lives and with an immovable faith. Did you realize that the root meaning of courage is coeur, which means heart in French. With Jesus dwelling in our hearts, we will experience boldness sufficient for the task at hand. Moreover, we will be equipped to show forth love and kindness to others.
Have you ever stopped to really ponder the brevity of life? When compared to eternity, our few years on earth are like a vapor. Each day make it your purpose to invite God into your life, to walk side by side with the Lord and to genuinely love others by the same measure that Christ loves you.
