Encouraging Words

[ 0 ] March 15, 2010 |

I would like to start a new collection consisting of your favorite expressions. What are the terms, phrases and the things that you say that enable you to get through a day? What are some of the catchy phrases that you say to celebrate an occasion, when you are worried about somebody or to share your love with someone?

Let me give you an example. My mother just celebrated her birthday. Happy Birthday, Nanny! Nanny lives in Memphis and she has by far the best saying of all time. During tough times she will look you square in the eyes and say, “Well, keep your mouth up.” Now, I’m just guessing but I believe translated that means for a person to keep smiling even though times are difficult.

If you have a particular phrase that you have inherited from your family, a term that you have adopted from friends or just a neat thing that you have a habit of saying, send it to me at ben@row.org. We would love to use a collection of phrases to help share the gospel all around the world.

Some encouraging words penned by Joshua are recorded in Joshua 1:9:

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

After the death of Moses, Joshua gathered the people of Israel together and encouraged them by letting them know that God would be with them each step of the way as they entered the Promised Land. Regardless of the difficulties you may be facing today, you be strong and courageous knowing that the Lord is with you every step of the way.
