Enduring Through the Ages

[ 0 ] July 31, 2011 |

Maturity simply means someone or something has a history. Have I got a history lesson for you today! When I first started working in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) the country was called Zaire. At that time in history, writing letters was the most common way of communicating, other than using a phone.

It would literally take a year for a letter that I wrote to arrive in Zaire and be returned back to me in the United States. The use of fax machines and computers in communication were soon invented and that has changed the world dramatically. With the creation of email, communicating suddenly became instantaneous. Telephone systems have been developed to the point where we are now even able to contact virtually anyone across the globe.

This means I can pick up the phone and call Omba in Kinshasa in the DRC and stay up to date on Rivers of the World’s (ROW) projects. I just discovered that in a few weeks we will have a new engine and transmission installed in one of our largest boats in the Congo, the Mama Mickie. She is used to distribute food and supplies up and down the Congo River and to deliver the gospel message to villages along the river. The engine in this boat blew up recently, resulting in a huge financial project for ROW. But, praise God, an estimated $127,000 was raised and the Mama Mickie is on her way to floating along the Congo River again!

Much progress has taken place over the years during the history of the United States. ROW has had, and continues to have, a remarkable and blessed history in many parts of the world. Our lives are continually in a state of change. However, one thing we can count on to never change is God. We have a wonderful assurance found in Hebrews 13:8 (Amplified):

“Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is [always] the same, yesterday, today, [yes] and forever (to the ages).”

Christ’s love for His people has endured from the beginning of time and we are assured that His love will remain throughout eternity.
