Equal in His Eyes

[ 0 ] October 8, 2005 |

Whether we wear blue jeans, have brown eyes, live in a hut or speak a language other than English, mankind was all created in God’s image. While traveling in Peru, I had the privilege to visit with a chief of the Yaqua Indian tribe. He announced his presence to our camp with an entourage of drummers and flute players.

The tribal chief wore a grass shirt, had the bones of a bushmaster snake around his neck and his body was painted a bluish purple from the native genipap fruit. The most striking thing about this chief’s appearance was the headdress made of brightly colored feathers from a macaw.

I have traveled the world and observed many different civilizations, which have included a diverse mixture of languages, modes of transportation and attire. Sometimes we have a difficult time looking beyond the outside of a person and seeing their heart. In Galatians 3:26, Paul said:

“You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”

This is the message this Yaqua chief wanted to convey to us during his visit. He said, “You tell the people in America, we are more than pictures in a book. We laugh, we love, we cry and we pray for America.”

God used this man to remind us that every life is just as important as we consider our own. Whether a person lives in the remote parts of the Arctic, the hidden jungles of Peru, the vast expanses of Africa or in America, each individual is worthy of hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This hope of salvation through Christ is the message we at Rivers of the World (ROW) bring to people of all races and cultures. To find out more about our mission, visit www.row.org.
