Establish the Work of Our Hands
Now don’t anyone tell my wife, Mickie, because I have her convinced that I cannot use a hammer and nails, a saw or a drill. I have been banned from repair duties in our home. My father always taught me that duct tape and bubble gum could fix about anything!
While in Honduras recently, I got a chance to use an electric drill. What a cool tool! Our crew built over 20 benches for two churches located in the mountains of Honduras. We cut, measured and fastened the benches together. The next challenge was to deliver the benches to the churches situated at an elevation of about 3,500 feet.
Using a pickup truck and trailer, we situated the benches, tied them down and off we went. The new benches drew quite a crowd and much rejoicing and celebrating.
I learned a valuable lesson on this trip—even I can learn something new in serving the Lord. Whether I say a new prayer for my brothers and sisters in Christ, pick up a tool and help build church benches, or travel by boat from village to village distributing solar powered, electronic, hand-held Bibles, I need to be available for the work of the Lord.
Let our cry to the Lord be as Moses’ cry in Psalm 90:17, which says:
“May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.”
Our days are numbered so our prayer should be that the Lord take our hearts, minds, hands, all that we have and all of who we are, and use it to further His kingdom for His glory. From the smallest tasks we perform each day to the monumental responsibilities we have in this lifetime, we should strive to do everything as if we are working unto the Lord, for indeed, we are. Today, I encourage you to view every job, task and work you do with eternity in mind.
