Eternal Perspective
People often ask me how I manage to travel to so many countries and cities every year and keep my wits about myself. On average, I visit about 200 cities a year and I am in a different country every month. How do I manage all this traveling, you might ask. My secret is wherever I am I consider myself to be home. Whenever I get off a plane and whenever I get out of a car the first thing I say is, “I’m home!” and then I don’t feel like I need to be somewhere else.
Through all of my travels my heart goes with me allowing me to care for the people Rivers of the World (ROW) serves and enabling me to leave a part of myself behind. I may not always know where I am, but I know that I am there with all of my heart and I am at home.
Every day is Valentine’s Day when you serve the Lord. Today, let me encourage you to take a piece of your heart and share it with somebody else.
Whether you are a frequent flyer or one who stays close to home, it is important for you to adopt an eternal perspective. During times when we are away from the comforts of home traveling on business or vacation and even during those times we are away from home confined in a hospital, we can still feel at home and at peace in the Lord. They key is to put into practice Colossians 3:2, which says:
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
