Every Second Counts

[ 0 ] March 1, 2006 |

Have you ever stopped to think about the suffering that occurs in just a minute of time? A minute is not long. It is merely 60 seconds. However, did you realize that every minute two children die of Malaria in Africa? Every 60 seconds 10 people are infected with HIV. Three people die every minute of tuberculosis. One pregnant woman dies every 60 seconds from complications.

These are examples of needless and unnecessary suffering that occurs in our world, in a span of just 60 seconds.

I challenge you today to examine how you use every minute of each day the Lord provides for you. Go a step further and think about the decisions you make each day and how those decisions could be aligned with the will of God to help change the world for Jesus Christ.

These are not difficult things for us to do if we would first come before the throne of God in heartfelt prayer seeking to know more of Him and desiring to be led by the Holy Spirit.
Too often, we fail to realize the genuine gift each day is and we carelessly go through life as if we have all the time in the world.

We are warned in James 4:13-15:

“Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

As we arise to greet this day, let us remember that this may be our last chance to make a difference in someone’s life for Christ’s sake.
