Excuses, Excuses

[ 0 ] July 6, 2006 |

I hear it all the time, “I’m just too…young, old, smart, dumb, fat, skinny, poor, rich to be able to serve the Lord.”

This is just an excuse and frankly, I am tired of hearing it. Today let me encourage you by telling you about a woman I met who didn’t allow her age to keep her from serving the Lord.

I was told this woman was too old to go to the Congo, but she said she was going anyways. I was also told this woman was a bit strong willed. Despite the fact that she was over 70 years old, she was determined to hike the bush with me.

I went to see her and when I met her, I threw my arms around her and said, “You know, I’m going to name you freight train.” That name stuck and we got along great! This woman threw on her backpack, headed out to the bush and she did an amazing job for the Lord.

In 1 Timothy 4:12, we are reminded:

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.”

Today, I challenge you to not let anyone discourage you from serving the Lord with all your heart whether you are young, old, poor, rich, smart, dumb, fat or skinny. It matters not what our outward appearance is, nor does it matter our possessions. God simply wants those who are available, no matter our ability.
