Expectations Realized
When hope becomes a reality, you cannot help but praise the Lord. Rivers of the World (ROW) staff member, Drew, returned recently from 10 days in Vietnam.
A few years ago, Drew met a woman while he was in Vietnam, who was sitting on a pile of bricks and holding her son. Drew learned that the woman’s husband had gone to sea one day to fish and provide for the family and he never returned home.
Each time this woman went to town, she spent what little money she had to buy a single brick. With hope in her heart, she was collecting bricks one by one with the anticipation of one day having enough bricks for a home for her and her son. When Drew met this woman, she was living in a cardboard and tin shack. He was so moved by that experience that he saw to it that the mother and her son got a home.
During the trip in October, Drew stopped by the woman’s new home. When she came walking out the front door and saw Drew, she burst into tears. Drew’s hope for this woman and this mother’s expectation of a better home for her son were finally realized.
It is not hard to make a difference in the world, you just have to decide to do it, one brick at a time. I pray that your hope today soon becomes a reality. I pray too that you purposefully become passionate in serving the Lord and His people. Paul gives us solid advice to follow as Christians, found in Romans 12:11-13:
“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
