Faith As a Child
I finally met her. After all these years, I finally met Cinderella. The name of that village we were in escapes me, but I will never forget one little girl. She was probably six-years-old and she wore the white rags of a little dress. She was barefooted and she came hobbling down a very rocky trail.
We were teaching vacation Bible school in this village and one of the kids in our group pulled out a little pair of pink bedroom slippers made for a child. I was told, “See if you can find someone to fit into these little shoes.” That is when I found that little girl. Very slowly, I knelt before her and I said, “In the name of Jesus, let me put these on your feet.”
As I began to place the pink bedroom slippers on her little feet, it scared her at first. After her initial fear, we saw those little slippers fit just right and that little girl’s face lit up. As the girl’s trusting spirit yielded to us, she was blessed with a pair of pink bedroom slippers and filled with much joy.
Likewise, as Christians, we must heed the words of Christ in Matthew 18:4:
“Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
We must relinquish every aspect of our lives to the Lord and become as dependent upon Him as a child is upon their parents. True freedom is discovered in letting go and allowing Christ to control every facet of our lives. As we do, we also will be blessed and filled with joy just like this little child with the pink bedroom slippers.
