Feasting at His Table
I just love to eat! I especially enjoy going to the grocery store, buying some food, coming home and rustling up a bunch of grub!
We recently took my wife, Mickie, shopping in the Congo. In some of the open markets there you can buy everything imaginable to eat. There are live termites, caterpillars, big maggots, smoked monkeys and some animal that the locals call a ground hog. If you buy meat in one of these markets make sure it is fresh because it is usually slaughtered right there on the spot.
We bought pots and pans, utensils, spices and oils then we spent all day cooking up a feast. All of our staff gathered around the table as we gave thanks for the food before us. It was quite a celebration!
The next time you approach the Lord’s table, think about what it took to prepare that meal. Regardless if you have steak to eat tonight or simply milk and bread, focus upon the One who provided not only the food that you have to eat, but also gave His body and poured out His blood for the sins of all mankind.
In Luke 22:19-20 (KJV), Jesus is sharing in His last meal with His disciples as He took the bread, gave thanks to His Father and broke it. When Jesus gave the bread to the disciples He said:
“This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.”
Jesus then took the cup after supper and said:
“This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”
Whether we are eating a meal, serving a meal to others or doing some other ministry for the Lord, let us sacrifice our all for Him who gave His all for us. Feast at His table today and consume all the blessings He has for you—peace, joy, a passion for the lost, grace, a clean heart and an insatiable appetite for more of Him.
