Follow Me
Before I headed to Iraq, I spent some time in training by walking through my neighborhood. People were staring at me a lot more than they normally do! It just didn’t make much sense to me. I was just wearing my bulletproof vest, along with a huge pack full of cameras and gear for my trip. You might think that was a big deal or something!
I just love it when my neighbors are curious about what I am doing! It reminds me to walk a bit more carefully in this world, but I must also walk where the Lord leads me. No matter how hard you try to fit in, there will always be somebody who thinks you dress somewhat strange, who thinks your accent is different from their accent and who thinks your exercise habits are a bit odd. Don’t sweat it. Instead, smile, love them and pray for them as you jog through your neighborhood, walk through your office or stroll through the shopping center.
Let me remind you today that we are called to serve others, to love them and to embody the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. Since many of the Corinthian believers didn’t know much about the life of Christ, Paul said, as recorded in 1 Corinthians 11:1:
“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.”
The best way for a new believer to learn about who Christ was and how He operates in our lives is to demonstrate the character of our Lord. Are you living your life in such a way that you would feel comfortable to tell others to follow you in the same manner that you are following Christ?
