Follow the Light
I am sure many of you know from experience that good directions can lead you exactly where you need to go. Yes, I have been lost before and I am sure you have too. And, yes, for some of us, it is very difficult to stop and ask for directions. I traveled recently to Lincoln, Neb. to see my dear friends at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and I had stayed at a different hotel than before.
On my way to the hotel, I discovered just how outrageous traffic is in Lincoln during football season! I spoke with Tatiana at the front desk of the hotel, she gave me wonderful directions and I was actually able to locate the hotel even in the midst of all the traffic! As I was checking in Tatiana said, “Hey, I know your voice. I listen to you on the radio!” That just made my day. I invited her to St. Mark’s but I don’t believe she came because she would have spoken to me.
I do want to thank Tatiana for the great directions but I also want to tell her the next time she is invited to church, go! Some people were born and raised in church, while others take many shortcuts in life before they find their way to church and to Christ. We have one sure way of staying on the right path after we accept Christ. It is found in Psalm 119:105:
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”
We live in a very dark world and the only way we can find our way through the maze of evil around us is to continue to follow the Light, which is Christ Jesus. Carve out time in your busy schedule every day to read God’s word and each step you take in life will be illuminated with His truths.
