Forgiven, Forgotten

[ 0 ] December 4, 2006 |

There are some things that simply will not let go. Have you ever been attacked by a goose or an emu? They will grab you by the ankles or blue jeans and not let go. This very thing happened to our administrator, 3, when she was at a petting zoo. A particularly aggressive emu grabbed her and wouldn’t let go. She finally had to yell and scream at the animal to get it to go away.

Dear Christian, our memories of our past sins are just like that—they grab a hold of us and won’t let go. Even though we may have given our lives to Christ, how many times do we still struggle with things we have said or done that are completely forgotten in the Lord’s mind.

Do you have a specific memory that haunts you, a past sin that continues to grieve you, or a particular regret that will not let you go? I want to encourage you to speak directly to this nuisance and declare out loud, in the name of Jesus go away because I have been set free from you. Now, let it go and be free because surely the Lord has long since forgotten about it.

We are assured in His word that if we confess our sins and repent, He will not only forgive us, He will also forget about our sins. We read in Isaiah 43:25 (Amplified):

“I, even I, am He Who blots out and cancels your transgressions, for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins.”

We further read in Hebrews 10:17:

“Then he adds: ‘Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.’”

The next time your mind travels back to the past and you are burdened down by a sin you have confessed and received forgiveness for, remember, when Christ forgives, He also forgets.
