Full Armor of God

[ 0 ] January 8, 2006 |

I just love parades—the marching bands, the floats and baton throwing. I participated in a different kind of parade in Northern Belize. We announced on the radio for everyone who owned a Bible to meet us on the northern end of town. This parade was held as a march for the Bible.

Christians of all backgrounds, nearly 5,000 of them, gathered at the end of Main Street. Holding our Bibles, we quietly sang hymns as we marched in unity to the other end of Main Street. This was a tremendously powerful witness and a very exciting parade.

I wonder what would happen if we all put a Bible on the dashboard of our cars. What would this do to show people that we are in the Lord’s parade?

Better yet, let us put on the full armor of God as we are instructed in Ephesians 6:14-17:

“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Imagine the powerful and effective witness we could be to the world if we daily were truthful in all our dealings, were moral and upright at work, home and in the community, and we continued to have faith in God despite our circumstances. Wearing the helmet of salvation is not enough to withstand the trials and tribulations of this world. We must wear the complete armor of God to be powerful Christians who are effective in leading others to Christ.
