Give Me Eyes to See

Published by kclack at 10:37 pm under Blessings, Bolivia

With the month of November brings many thoughts of thankfulness. I am thankful for Hal Walker and his friends who traveled to La Paz, Bolivia and set up a prescription eyeglass clinic. Bolivia is sandwiched between Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile and Peru in South America. La Paz is the administrative capital of Bolivia.

After just one week of establishing the eyeglass clinic, Hal and his friends had given 1,600 people the ability to see more clearly with prescription fit eyeglasses. In 2005, the supplies for the eyeglass clinic were delivered to Bolivia and stored. In June 2006, a team from Mississippi went to Bolivia to continue work started the previous year and the clinic was opened.

One homeless woman was particularly blessed to have been fitted with a pair of prescription eyeglasses. After being fit with her new glasses, this woman sat down, reached in her bag, pulled out a piece of cloth, needle and thread, and began sewing. As she sewed, this woman just cried.

These were tears of joy because this woman was a seamstress and had not been able to work because her vision had diminished. With the loss of her job came the loss of her house. A week after being fit with a pair of glasses, this woman came back to the clinic jumping up and down because she had gotten her job back. She also was able to go back to her home. With one pair of prescription eyeglasses, this woman’s life was totally restored and she was thanking God for her ability to see again.

Instead of jumping out of bed in the morning and rushing through your day, I want to encourage you to take a moment each morning to slowly open your eyes and ears and thank God for the ability to see and hear His marvelous creation. We are told in Proverbs 20:12 that:

“Ears that hear and eyes that see—the LORD has made them both.”

Jesus even reminds us in Matthew 13:16 that:

“But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.”

He has given us eyes and ears to not only cherish and appreciate all that He has created, but to see His truth and to hear His voice.
