Give Thanks With a Grateful Heart
It is Thanksgiving and all across our country people are saying amazing things. In dining rooms and kitchens across the United States, you can just hear people giving thanks for all their many blessings.
The words “thank you” is said in many different ways throughout the United States and abroad. In parts of New Zealand and England, people say “cheers.” Other ways to say “thank you” include Maketai (Ecuador, Peru), Ahíyi’ee (dialect of Apache in Arizona), Twa to te la (Zambia, Congo-Brazaville), Yakoke (dialect of Choctaw in Oklahoma) and Lac jak (Vietnam).
It is just amazing to me that all across our country at this time of year people are giving thanks for America. They are giving thanks for their freedom and the opportunity to work, to live, to worship, to pray and to praise the Lord as they choose in this land of freedom.
For those of us living in the South and to those of you who live elsewhere, we want to say thank you for making America a great place to live. I especially want to give thanks to all those men and women who have sacrificially given their lives over the years by serving in our U.S. Armed Forces. It is because of their willingness to lay down their lives that we now are able to enjoy the freedoms we have.
Let us not wait for the annual Thanksgiving celebration to offer our thanks to God for His mercies, grace, forgiveness and His daily presence in our lives. In 1 Chronicles 16:34 we read:
“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
If for no other reason, we should daily give thanks to the Lord because He is indeed good and His love will never fail us.
