Give Your All

[ 0 ] March 9, 2006 |

Are you ever selfish with your time, money, food, gifts, love, acceptance and forgiveness? While ministering in northern Iraq, I experienced an unselfish act of kindness that really touched my heart.

I was standing next to a microwave oven when a young Marine came up to me and showed me his treasurea small tin of General Foods International coffee, Suisse mocha flavor I believe. He was preparing to make himself, in essence, some hot chocolate. I looked at it and I said, “Oh that looks great!”

Even though I was a stranger, this young Marine, far from home with few personal possessions, merely looked at me and asked, “Would you like some?”

I do not know when my heart has been so touched by someone willing to share what they had with a stranger. This small act of kindness reminded me that I should daily let go of all I have in service to others for Christ’s sake.

Paul instructs us in Philippians 2:3-4 to:

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

Christ gave His all for us so we should give our all for Him. We can do this by giving our love, acceptance, mercy and all we have to others. We should also take time daily in intercessory prayer for others. We never know when one small, unselfish act for someone might be the very thing that leads them into a relationship with Jesus Christ.
