God Is Our Refuge

[ 0 ] September 2, 2006 |

Everybody says flying tourists is just not what it used to be. I was the youngest so they placed me in the tail of the bush plane. I wasn’t the only person lying down in rear of the plane. A woman who was desperately ill was nearby me. We were trying to transport her from one hospital in one location to another hospital.

She had never flown in a plane before. As we rolled down the dirt runway, I guess she thought we were in a truck because she was calm. As the plane began to take off and clear the trees, this dear woman became scared to death.

We were doing everything we could to calm this woman down. I was giving a commentary on what it is like to fly tourists, trying to be light hearted. Finally, in her native language, we started speaking to her saying, “Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord.” This fearful woman was suddenly filled with peace at the name of Jesus.

Is your life a wreck today? Do you feel as if you are about to drown in life’s problems? Are you so focused on your circumstances that you have forgotten who holds tomorrow? Change your way of thinking today by saying, “Jesus is Lord.” He is the Lord over every trial, disappointment and circumstance that you may be dealing with today.

If fear has gripped you, robbing you of joy and peace, then I encourage you to memorize Psalm 46:1-3, which says:

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah.”

Cast all your cares upon Him today, seek refuge with Christ and draw from His strength.
