Harvest Field

[ 0 ] May 25, 2009 |

After being home for three weeks, it is now time to ask everyone to begin praying. By the time you read this, I will be in the Democratic Republic (DR) of the Congo. That means much excitement, challenges and the vast need for intercessory prayers.

While aboard our big ship, the Mama Mickie, Congo Program Directors Omba Ngandu, Shamba Akasa and Pappa Akulu Mukanga and I will head down the Sankuru River, camp out and create a film about the big boat, which we launched in January 2007.

We are going to witness and share with people in several native languages, including Tshiluba, Lingala, Kikongo, Swahili and even a little French. If you view the pictures of the Mama Mickie on the Rivers of the World (ROW) web site you will notice the ship actually says Maman Mickie, which is French for mother. The DR of the Congo is a complicated country, but even so, there are tremendous opportunities to serve the Lord and to meet the incredible needs that exist.

Our itinerary also includes a visit at the new orphanage in Kinshasa that many ROW supporters helped us to build. We’ll be checking on our 30 little children housed at the orphanage.

Please be in prayer for us for the next couple of weeks while we’re in the DR of the Congo. Pray specifically for our protection, strength and provision as we strive to accomplish God’s will amongst His people.

Jesus appointed over 70 people to travel to every town and place ahead of Him where he was to go. Sending them out two by two, we read in Luke 10:2:

“He told them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’”

It is wonderful to be zealous for the Lord but we must exercise wisdom by asking God for more workers to come along side us and work in the “harvest field.” Take a moment today and think about those people whom you deal with on a daily or weekly basis. Now ask yourself the question, “How many of these folks know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior?” If you can’t answer that question than I suggest you get busy working because the harvest is truly plentiful.
