He Spoke Forth Life

I can testify that old dogs can learn new tricks. I have a precious neighbor, Holly, who is teaching me about God’s creation and the many plants He designed so that we may have a better life.

When we go for a walk it is just fascinating to hear her knowledge of various flowers, plants and trees. Holly will point out particular flowers, plants and trees and inform me, “This one makes a great salad, while this one will cure a cold. This will settle your upset stomach and this one will just make you feel better all over.”

I have been so busy walking past the trees, flowers and plants in my neighborhood that I had no idea these creations of God had all those very significant capabilities. I knew they were pleasing to the eye but didn’t have a clue of the varied uses to enhance our lives. For instance, many folks may use garlic in different dishes to boost the flavor. Did you know that garlic can be used to treat a host of ailments, such as bronchitis and to relieve stomach cramps? How about the common dandelion. The leaves can be used in salads and this familiar weed is also used as a remedy for stomach disorders.

I am sure there are many people like Holly who have knowledge about the varied uses of plants and about tried and true home remedies. If you have discovered a tea that brings you peace or that settles your stomach or if you know of a plant that can help cure a particular disorder, I’d love to hear about it. I don’t know about you but I just get amazed at the creative ways that God can reach His people, whether it is by comforting someone through a puppy or curing someone by a plant.

Let me remind you, dear Christian, that God created the earth and every living thing upon it for our enjoyment and for our provision. We read in Genesis 1:29 (NKJV):

“And God said, ‘See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.’”

The next time you see a flower, plant or tree, thank Him for its beauty and all the many purposes for which He created each living organism.
