Help Is a Prayer Away

Published by kclack at 3:50 pm under Danger, Nicaragua, Prayer

On my recent trip to Nicaragua the carburetor on the boat we were riding in fell apart. To make matters worse, after we fixed that problem we then ran out of fuel. So here we are stuck on the Kukra River in the deep jungles of Nicaragua, it is getting dark and the animals are now coming to life. It quickly became time to figure out how to get out of that predicament.

We had cell phones but they didn’t work that far up the Kukra River. I was prepared, though, with a satellite radio. I couldn’t use this technology to call anyone in Nicaragua, but I could radio my friend Chris in Atlanta and ask him to call Edwin in Bluefields, Nicaragua. I was able to reach Chris and I begged him to ask Edwin to get a boat and some gasoline and find us on Rama Cay, a small island located inside Bluefields Bay.

There were about 10 of us in this boat, including some very young children who were getting quite scared. Thank goodness the Lord provided us with the technology that enabled us to get through this tense situation.

During those times when we find we are in a frightening situation or we simply cannot see our way out of a particularly difficult circumstance, we merely need to cry out to the Lord for He is our help in times of trouble. The next time you are in need of help, simply pray Psalm 121:1-2, which says:

“I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

When we realize that the God of all creation is the same God who loves us and watches over our lives, all fear and doubt should subside.
