Immeasurable Power
The football and track coaches I had while growing up in Memphis, Tenn. left an indelible impression on my brain. I can still recall when coaches Floyd Lowery and Tyree used to get so mad at us boys. They would begin this tirade of, “You know I’ve had enough of you boys. You ain’t got no backbone. You don’t want to play no sports. I’ve just had it with you boys. Now go on and stand up and let’s get in the game.”
Oh, I used to love that! I hate to say it but there are times even now when I feel the same way my coaches did, but toward our country and the church. I’ve often wondered, “Where is our backbone?” As Christians, why have we forgotten that it is not the government or the world around us that is in control, but instead, it is Christ alive and living within us that gives us our backbone and strength? When we forget that, it is then that we begin to worry about our economy, our government and our future. We must realize that everything is in God’s hands, even our very own lives.
Now let me tell you Christians, it’s time to stand up, get back in the game and praise the Lord for His immeasurable power that lies within us all.
My prayer for you today is the same prayer the Apostle Paul had for the saints in Ephesus, as recorded in Ephesians 1:17-20 (Amplified):
“[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him, By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones), And [so that you can know and understand] what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength, Which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His [own] right hand in the heavenly [places].”
