Impenetrable Faith

[ 0 ] January 24, 2008 |

You are walking down the aisle in a grocery store, you turn the corner and all of a sudden you hear this loud scream. You then discover where the ear-piercing noise is coming from—a young child pitching a fit because he wants a candy bar and his mother refuses. What is your first thought? Gosh, that child is out of control.

Well, I believe the issue of control is the very source of most of the sins of this world. Most people just want to be in control. This is certainly the case in Southeast Asia where a Rivers of the World (ROW) team is positioned behind the Bamboo Curtain. This term refers to communist countries in Southeast Asia. This team, coordinated by Drew McIlreavy, needs your prayers.

While trying to do our job, we encountered people trying to control us by telling us what we cannot do because it didn’t fit into their schedule. What was my response to these folks wanting to be in control and interrupt ROW’s schedule? I simply quoted Gen. George Patton who said, “Forward, forward always forward. Never sideways. Never backwards and certainly never giving up.”

No matter how much opposition we run into and regardless of the persecution we may face, we will serve the Lord with courageous faith. While the Corinthians were awaiting Paul’s next visit, he sent forth instructions for them to follow. We read in 1 Corinthians 16:13:

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong.”

As we wait upon our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to return, we also need to be on our guards, remain strong and have great courage despite the obstacles we may face. More than anything though, we must have an impenetrable faith—one that cannot be shaken by circumstances nor swayed by the moral or intellectual influences of this day.
