In All Circumstances
Just call me “speedy!” I spotted an opening in traffic and I stomped on the accelerator of my Jeep. The Jeep shot forward and I had no idea that thing could go 80 mph! As I looked up from the speedometer, there he was—cop on his motorcycle aiming his radar gun at the traffic.
I just knew my life was over. I hit my brakes, dropped down to fourth gear and came upon that wonderful police officer. It was then I discovered that he had to turn his head away from his radar gun at that very moment so he could spit out a big wad of chewing tobacco. This is something that you would only witness in the South!
As I resumed traveling at the legal speed limit, I laughed and thanked the Lord, promising Him that I would be more careful. As you go about your day today, look carefully for those little blessings. Each day is filled with evidence of His hand upon your life. He provides sunshine when you have planned a family outing. He provides rain at just the right time to water the farmer’s crops. He even gives us a break sometimes by not allowing us to get a speeding ticket!
Regardless if I had been issued a ticket, I still must follow His directive as stated in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, which says:
“Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Read the scripture again, but this time notice it does not say we are to be thankful for our circumstances, but we are to be grateful even in our trials and tribulations. No matter what you are going through today, His presence is ever with you and that is certainly reason enough to be thankful!
